Steeton Reserves continued their good run of form with a fine 4-3 victory over Westbrook in the County Amateur League.

The game wasn't as close as the scoreline suggests with Steeton in command for most of the game.

Westbrook changed pitches at the last minute to ensure that the game went ahead. With a smaller sloping pitch to contend with Steeton defending for much of the first half with Kevin Knappy producing a flying save to keep Westbrook at bay. Rob Hansen and Chris Galders were also having fine games at the heart of the Steeton defence.

With the clock running down to half time Stewart Airdrie broke down the wing and crossed for Chris Turner to head home from close range. It got better on the stroke of half time as Turner pounced again to claim his second.

Airdrie, on his return from injury, looked lively throughout and he added a third with a close drive. Westbrook then pulled one back before Chris Fothergill rifled a fourth into the bottom corner.

With a 4 -1 cushion Steeton took the opportunity to give veteran Andy Lamb a rest and introduced a couple of younger players for a taste of the action. However, this left a gap in midfield and Westbrook managed to sneak a couple more to set up a tense finish butSteeton held on to take the points.

After three wins from the last four games the management team of Steve Narey and Roy Mason were delighted with the turnaround in performances since the start of the year. Hopes are high that the reserve side have finally turned the corner and are looking forward to a successful finish to the season
