Plans to demolish a health centre in Shipley and replace it with a modern one have gone to Bradford Council.
Shipley Health Centre, on Alexandra Road, is to undergo a major transformation to provide more space for its two doctors' surgeries, teenage health clinic, dentist, podiatric and speech therapy services.
Staff will move temporarily to Park View Court and portable buildings on the car park at St Paul's Road during the work - which is expected to take at least 18 months.
The plans have been drawn up by Leeds architects Pearce Bottomley. They state the 1970s health centre has a leaking roof and asbestos, does not meet the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act, services cannot be expanded and the demands of a modern primary care centre cannot be met.
Drs Eisner, Goldman and Ship is one of the two general practices at the centre. Its practice manager, Paula Guiry, said: "This is likely to be a major rebuild that will make a real different to the people of Shipley.
"Our surroundings will be brought right up to date and we will be able to offer all the high quality services that we did before in a much more fitting environment.
"The range of primary health care services we already provide - like health visitors, district nurses and clinics - will be supported by up-to-date facilities like improved disabled access, baby changing facilities and a health education room."
Councillor Kevin Warnes (Shipley, Green) who lives on Alexandra Road, said residents had been concerned about the plans and the impact the new building would have on homes.
He said: "There's nobody who doesn't want the health centre redeveloped. It needs improving; it is an eyesore. But we want to have a say in the project. This is a great opportunity to get it right for the next 20 to 30 years."
He said residents were concerned about the height of the new building, construction noise and dust and would like to see the access moved to cut traffic on Alexandra Road.
The plans will be determined by Shipley Area Planning Panel.
