The former owners of a Chinese restaurant in Keighley have been found dead from carbon monoxide poisoning in their bed above their new takeaway.
Kan Shing Lam, 54, and his 52-year-old wife, Hsiu Ying Lam, also known as Mary Lam, were discovered by police last Friday above the Man Lee Chinese takeaway, in Lockwood, Huddersfield.
The couple, who had run the Dynasty in Skipton Road, Keighley, until the end of last year, had not been seen for three days. Their son and daughter, Geoffrey and Tracy, both university graduates in their early-20s, still live at the family home in Clayton Rise.
They are former pupils of Holy Family Catholic School.
Deputy head teacher Sean Gilligan led the tributes to the family. He said: "The children are devastated. They were lovely kids, really diligent youngsters. The family was very hard-working."
Simon Franco, of the neighbouring Serendipity Antiques, said he had only met the couple when they first arrived before Christmas.
Staff at the takeaway raised the alarm after they had not seen the couple for three days. Police forced their way into the shop at about 5.45pm on Friday and found the pair lying in bed. A gas fire in the room was still burning. The flat was hot and there was extensive condensation throughout the upper rooms.
British Gas and the Health and Safety Executive were helping police with the investigations.
A Health and Safety Executive spokesman said: "There are a number of issues relating to the gas fire which are being looked at."
A post-mortem examination has confirmed the pair died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
