Bradford Old Choral Society last night gave a performance of Halifax-born Sir George Dyson's "The Canterbury Pilgrims." Unfortunately St George's Hall was only one third full for this colourful contribution, based on Chaucer. Here is a work in conventional style, showing Dyson as a firmly robust composer avoiding the modern but yet in this conservative approach bringing out the best in the choral medium. This a delightful series of parts, reflective of the character writings and the society. Under Dr Percy G Saunders, organist and master of choir at Wakefield Cathedral, with the Lenae Orchestra, this show was one to remember.
