A terminally ill two-year-old is to go on a trip of a lifetime, thanks to generous fundraisers.
Miles Bradbourne, who has the extremely rare genetic disorder MPS 1 Hurler Syndrome, will be travelling to Sydney, Australia to see his Aunt Chloey this month after he passed his six-monthly health checks.
The trip for the boy nicknamed 'Smiley Miley' has been made possible through local fundraising which has so far raised more than £17,000 for the youngster.
A trust fund was set up by Miles' mum Naomi after the toddler was diagnosed with the incurable chromosome deficiency which suffocates all the soft tissue in his body and affects his development.
He is not likely to live beyond six years old.
Naomi has organised a number of fundraising events to provide sensory equipment for Miles and to arrange special trips for him to make his few remaining years ones to remember.
She hopes to take him to Disney World in Florida later this year, health permitting.
In the latest fundraiser three Wharfedale motor clubs raised £1059.47 for the youngster.
Yeadon-Guiseley Motor Club donated all the proceeds of a motorcycle trial and Ilkley and Horsforth Motor Clubs staged collections before and after Christmas.
Naomi, of Pool-in-Wharfedale, said: "He passed his health check with flying colours and we were really pleased because it made this trip possible.
"At the moment he is like any other two- year-old although his hearing will never improve and he has to wear hearing aids all day every day.
"We were told there was no reason why he couldn't fly and we wanted to grab these opportunities."
Naomi's sister, a hair stylist, went over to Sydney in December and this will be the first time Miles has been able to travel abroad.
Naomi was told that Miles was only the 86th child in the UK to have the condition which develops differently in each case but can leave children unable to walk or crawl.
They may never speak and may go deaf or blind but Miles has surprised doctors by learning to walk by himself and learning new words.
He has also learnt sign language and can now sign 30 words and speak them clearly.
Naomi is hoping that the trip to Australia will improve Miles' health and clear up an ear infection and cold he has.
She said the high temperatures in Australia, being able to play on the beach and spend time with his aunt should ensure Miles lives up to his 'Smiley Miley' nickname.
