SEDBERGH Junior School have won the National Preparatory Schools Sevens this week at Rosslyn Park Rugby Club.
To win this prestigious competition, the Low Bentham-based school had to beat the top 64 preparatory schools in the country.
On the first day of the competition, Sedbergh defeated New Beacon 34-0, Clayesmore 42-0, Dulwich 45-5 and Cumnor House 30-0 to qualify for the second day.
In the quarter final they beat The Dragon from Oxford 14-7 and followed this with a semi-final victory over Bedford by 19-17. This set up a classic final against Millfield. A superb Sedbergh performance saw them emerge with a 26-12 victory.
"To win the National Schools Sevens Tournament at Rosslyn Park at our first attempt is a fantastic achievement considering the size of our school," said a delighted headmaster Paul Reynolds.
"I am very proud of our boys and also indebted to their coaches Gordon Maclelland and Nigel Moss, whose time and expertise have been invaluable. It was quite simply an extraordinary day for us and one that will live in our memories for ever."
