Guiseley are now just three points away from the play-off places following an excellent home win at the weekend - and they could move to within goal difference with another victory tonight.

They will not have an easy task, though, as they travel to Matlock Town.

The Derbyshire-based mid-table outfit may be out of the hunt for promotion, trailing by 11 points, but they are strong at home.

With a dozen games of their season left, they might still harbour hopes of gate-crashing the play-off party. Only the UniBond Premier Division champions will win automatic promotion- clubs finishing second to fifth will contest the other place for the Conference North.

Guiseley are very much in the frame after their 14th win of the season and Burscough, who currently sit in fifth spot, despite Saturday's 4-1 home defeat to Farsley Celtic, have played one more game.

"I said before Saturday's game that we had an outside chance of making the play- offs," said Guiseley manager Neil Parsley.

"It was a great result to get all three points off one of the teams above us when we beat Leek Town, so we must be a little bit nearer.

"But I stand by what I said. It remains a tall order for us.

"All I can say is that another win will help our cause tremendously. We have given ourselves the best possible chance by going 11 games unbeaten, which has been vital at a crucial stage of the season, but we need to maintain the pressure on the other clubs."

With no injuries reported by his squad from Saturday's tough work-out, Parsley names the 14 involved and adds midfielder Dave Henry, who has been training well and has put himself in contention for a recall.

But it will be difficult for the manager to find Henry a place after his players have done so well. Simon Parke, who scored on Saturday, and Scott Jackson were excellent up front and the midfield of Mark Stuart, Richard Chattoe, skipper Jeremy Illingworth and Jonathon Hunt worked very hard against Leek.

l Eccleshill United reserves went six points clear at the top of the Northern Counties East League Division Two as a result of their 3-1 win at Pickering Town. Ryan Wood and Andy Philp scored before Paul Lyons settled the match with five minutes to go.
