Marc Bridge-Wilkinson hopes to make his stay at City permanent.
The on-loan midfielder's impressive month at Valley Parade is up after tomorrow's derby at Doncaster.
Colin Todd is keen to get Bridge-Wilkinson on board and the T&A understands that talks are on-going between City and the player's agent.
Any deal would have to be completed by the transfer deadline of 5pm tomorrow.
City may try to snap him up now to head off possible competition from other clubs or they could simply extend the loan for the rest of the season. If not, Bridge-Wilkinson will go back to Stockport and the Bantams would have to wait until the summer to make another move for him.
Bridge-Wilkinson has another year left on his contract at Edgeley Park but has been told to look elsewhere.
Boss Chris Turner is aiming to clear the decks of some of the club's higher earners and rebuild with recruits like Farsley-born winger Harpal Singh, who has been on loan from Leeds.
Bridge-Wilkinson has really caught the eye in his four City performances - and would welcome the chance of a full-time switch.
He said: "It would be nice to get a move here. I've really enjoyed it and the lads, the staff and the gaffer have made me feel welcome. But I'm still contracted to Stockport at the minute so I have to make sure things at that end move on."
The 25-year-old has been in and out of the Stockport side this season. He has relished the opportunity of a bigger role with City and has operated on both wings and in central midfield.
"It's been a while since I've played four games on the spin and I can feel myself getting fitter and sharper all the time.
"Maybe we weren't quite on the wavelength in the first game because I'd just arrived but since then it's been easy to get in the same sort of mentality as everyone else.
"The last two results have been disappointing because we've created enough chances to have won both. I'm desperate to score myself - hopefully it will come at Doncaster tomorrow.
"But there is a good blend here. We didn't have very much experience at Stockport and you can see the difference that having a few lads in their 30s makes."
l Craig Armstrong will not be staying at City. The defender has made two starts but Colin Todd said: "He hasn't showed me enough, and he would probably say the same himself."
