Keighley Town ran out worthy 32-15 winners in a hard-fought home victory over Pennine League Division One
promotion rivals Bradford Dudley Hill.
The visitors started the brightest,
scoring two tries in the first five
minutes to leave Town stunned.
Whatever was said behind the posts seemed to rally Town, and they hit back straightaway through prop Rocky McNulty.
He scored beside the posts from a set move, Alan Muff converting. Town got possession again from the kick-off, and outstanding forward Andy Stokes made a powerful break, outpacing Hill's full back to score beneath the sticks. Muff's conversion made it 12-10 to Town. Both teams then tightened their defences and chances were kept to a minimum, but Town's pack started to dominate, Barnes, Shaw and Lynham starting to make an impact, while
hooker Quinton Sneyd led by example in defence.
Hill found it hard to penetrate and rarely ventured into Town's 20. When they did get there they settled for a drop goal to make it 12-11 at half-time.
The second half was dominated by Town. The powerful first-half work from the forwards was topped off with some fine rugby from Keighley's back line.
Young full back Tom Kenna was the first second-half scorer for Town. He strode into the line inside his centre to cross in the corner, Muff converting.
This try filled Town with confidence and they began to make easy yards, Sneyd going over from dummy half for a try that put Town 22-11 ahead.
Half-back pairing Richard Shaw and Neil Kennedy controlled the game and winger Harry Burns was the next
benefactor of good handling, going over in the corner. Muff passed the crossbar challenge by converting the try.
Hill did not give up and scored a good try, but Muff topped off a good day with a try of his own. Town have two games left.
Keighley Town A are at Cougar Park this Saturday against Leeds side Woodhouse.
