An Anthony Foulger strike was the difference as Steeton edged past local rivals Silsden to claim a place in the Keighley Supplementary Cup Final on 18th April with Cross Hills.
In a game played in summer like conditions it was Silsden who took the game to Steeton early on and it was them who created the early chances, with veteran keeper Knappy again in fine form for Steeton to keep Silsden at bay. However Steeton had their chances and a Chris Galdes header from Roy Mason's free kick nearly broke the deadlock before the break, the ball just falling the wrong side of the post.
Steeton started to get on top in the second half with Andy Lamb and Craig Stephens both getting a grip on the midfield battle and Chrsi Turner firing over the bar. Then Chris Fothergill fed Anthony Fouldger and Steeton took the lead, Fouldger drawing the keeper to fire the Summerhill Lane outfit into the lead with a fierce drive.
Steeton's experience began to show and with Rob Hansen and Paul Wood in commanding form at the back Silsden were limited to long range efforts. Tom Woodward then had the chance to seal the game but the Silsden keeper was quick off his line to prevent a second - this should have proved costly as in the final minute faced with a one on one with Knappy the Silsden striker dragged his shot wide with everybody waiting for the net to bustle. Steeton held on to take their place in the final, but Silsden will take may positives out of the game and for them with this crop of youngsters the future looks bright.
