A VIRTUOSO performance by Mary Wilkinson brought Skipton Athletics Club its third Yorkshire title of the year when she triumphed in the Yorkshire Half-Marathon Championship last Sunday at Ackworth, near Pontefract (writes Roger Ingham).
Completing the testing course in a speedy one hour, 19 minutes and 31 seconds, 24-year-old Wilkinson finished more than three minutes clear of her closest challenger, Dewsbury's Trina Johnson.
Wilkinson's success, in a field of over 70 competitors, follows Yorkshire Cross-country Championship titles for Skipton AC's Sam Hutchinson, in the under-13 boys, and the club's under-20 men's team in January.
A fine all-rounder, Wilkinson first came to prominence with Skipton as a 13-year-old high jumper. She has won county representative honours in five different sports and has also won a Yorkshire senior title in fell-racing.
