There is more to regeneration than fabulous buildings and architecture. The reshaping of a city depends on its people and how they use the facilities which are made available for them.

Bradford's aims are clear: better shopping; a cleaner, safer, brighter city-centre environment; better central leisure facilities; streets where people can feel safe and comfortable and able to spend their leisure time, day and night, without worries about crime.

But to help to produce all that we need a vibrant, exciting and dynamic city centre with quality and character to shake off the unfortunate image that Bradford has acquired and bring people in to live, work, play and visit out of choice.

If we are to make that happen we need the help of all the creative juices that local artists, businesses and others with vision and ambition can generate. They need to be inspired to put their energies into creating a city that will be talked about across the country in a positive rather than negative way.

So the meeting organised by Arts&Business Yorkshire which is planned for the middle of next month should provide an important and welcome opportunity to kick-start that process.

As Marc Cole, operations director for Bradford Centre Regeneration says, Bradford has a wealth of creative talent which has the potential to play a big part in the economic success of the city.

Let's hope all those with a share of that potential get involved in this event and see how they can help their city forward.
