Colin Todd is confident City's play-off push will not be put off by Nicky Summerbee's impending departure.
The winger will quit Valley Parade in the summer after rejecting a new contract, but he is still training with the club after a deadline-day move to Oldham failed to materialise.
Summerbee has been left out for the last two games - which have seen City bag four points to edge back into the fight for a top-six finish.
Todd said: "We must not be
distracted by the Nicky Summerbee situation and I'm sure the players won't be. They know how I handle people.
"We have to focus our concentration on the next game at Chesterfield on Saturday and the five after that."
Summerbee has started 32 games this season and has the most goal assists at the club, as well as scoring three times. But his absence has opened the door for Owen Morrison and Ben Muirhead to push their claims again.
Todd added: "Nicky is still our player. He can't go anywhere for the rest of the season and I'll utilise him the best way I can. But we've got to look at the whole picture.
"Under the circumstances I couldn't afford to play him against Doncaster last week. I wouldn't have been doing justice to the rest of the team when selecting the side, knowing I might then have to pull him out.
"I heard a whisper about Oldham and if we had been forced to withdraw him that would have unsettled the others. So I made my stance to leave him out.
"We did very well there to get a draw and I kept faith with the players on Monday and we had a good home win.
"I've spoken to Nicky and he knows the position. If he is looking for a club for next season then he has to look at himself and give it his maximum while he is with us, which I'm sure he will do."
