A rat-run street near to where a Stockbridge girl was killed in a road accident is set to be closed to traffic.

The proposed blocking of Florist Street follows pressure from residents campaigning in memory of nine-year-old Casey Mason.

Casey was involved in an accident with a lorry which moments earlier had travelled along Florist Street to avoid traffic jams.

The Riddlesden Primary School pupil rode her bike into the path of the lorry at the junction of Bradford Road and Cornwall Road.

Keighley Area Committee will decide on Wednesday whether to spend £5,000 on closing Florist Street to traffic.

Members will also be asked to spend £15,000 on traffic calming measures for adjacent Aireworth Road.

Residents have claimed that many drivers use the roads to avoid congestion at the Victoria Park roundabout.

The committee, Bradford Council's local decision making body, has £216,000 to spend on traffic management schemes for the next 12 months.

It will choose from a list of proposals for work across Keighley, Ilkley and surrounding villages, costing a total of £256,000.

The traffic calming, speed limits, footpaths and pedestrian safety measures have been suggested by residents and councillors.

Traffic calming has been proposed at Elliott Street, Silsden; Hainworth Wood Road, Woodhouse; Denholme Road, Leeming; and Rawling Street, Calver Avenue and Spring Gardens Lane, Keighley.
