Esa Ahmed's winning smile and bonny looks have charmed Bradfordians making him top tot in this year's Telegraph and Argus competition.

The bubbly baby wowed readers, scooping most votes in the Happy Tots contest to find the district's happiest baby.

As well as happily posing for the camera, Esa is Cbeebies' number one fan, and his favourites include Fimbles and Teletubbies.

And the friendly tot is already winning the attention of everyone who knows him.

His mother, Mrs Farhana Ahmed said: "He goes to everyone and is a very loud baby."

She was over-the-moon when she heard baby Esa had won, and said: "We'd been trying for a baby for two years and I'd always walked past the stand wanting to join in. Now we've won it's great."

With such a huge fan club behind him, including relatives and friends, Esa's star qualities were sure to shine through.

"Everyone I know phoned in to vote. I always hoped he would win and kept my fingers crossed," said Mrs Ahmed.

To celebrate, Esa will be treated to a special party at the family home on Brandfort Street, Lidget Green.

As overall winner he has won £500 of Kirkgate vouchers and is also winner of the 0-9 month category for which he has won a framed portrait, worth £200. Esa loves playing with his mountain of toys and Mrs Ahmed will use the cash to splash out on even more toys as well as clothes.

"I will use all the money on Esa. He deserves it. He's such a good baby and always smiling."

Winner in the ten to 18 month category was Joshua Swidrak, of Main Road, Denholme and in the 19-36 month group, Joel Etienne took the top place for a second year in a row. They have each won a wonderful framed portrait worth £200.

Mother Victoria Lester was shaking when she found out Joel had won the prize in his category.

She said: "I'm completely gobsmacked. I didn't expect him to win because there were so many other beautiful babies. I nearly wasn't going to enter him because he was so close to the cut off point in that age group."

Mrs Lester will celebrate by taking Joel to his favourite place, the play area at the Wacky Warehouse in Eccleshill.

She said: "His perfect day would be watching his Spiderman dvd and then playing with my hair. He really thinks he's Spiderman. He is going through this phase of laughing at everything."

Mother of little Joshua, Caroline Ives, of Fagley Place, Bradford, was shocked when she heard her son had won a prize.

She said: "I'll be spoiling him with lots of toys and treats."

She added: "He is a very happy and noisy baby and dances to any and every type of music. He loves his food and will eat absolutely anything."
