Traffic restrictions are needed in Saltaire to address "continued conflict" between residents, businesses, visitors and through traffic, highway officers say.
A number of measures are being proposed in the village, a world heritage site, including introducing residents' parking removing long-stay parking, introducing limited waiting and relaxing waiting restrictions outside businesses.
The proposals will be considered at a meeting of Shipley Area Committee on Thursday.
Bradford Council's principal traffic engineer Phil Sawley stated: "Failure to implement the proposals would lead to continued conflict between local residents, businesses, commuters/visitors and through traffic in Saltaire.
"The traffic measures are designed to reduce conflict and congestion, and improve community safety and access for emergency service vehicles."
Objectors to the traffic orders have urged councillors to consider the effects of the restrictions on businesses who rely on passing trade; the knock-on effect of congestion on other residential roads; and include a request to relax the restrictions around Saltaire Methodist Church on Sunday mornings.
Councillor Martin Love (Shipley, Green) said he welcomed the measures as a way of addressing problems occurring in the village.
He said: "The village was never built for cars - 150 years ago the sort of problems occurring now would never have been dreamt of.
"The measures being put forward are quite sensible. I suspect the increase in traffic since the Bingley Relief Road had made things worse, but to be fair there were problems before."
Resident-only parking was one of the many recommendations made in the Airedale Masterplan, published recently.
The plan, drawn up by consultants Arup, details how the Aire Valley area could be rejuvenated. It states that creating resident-only parking in Saltaire would reduce traffic on Victoria Road and create a more attractive environment for people. The committee will also discuss how next years' highway general maintenance funding will be allocated and a programme for traffic management schemes in the Shipley area.
There is £50,000 for small highway maintenance and street lighting improvement schemes and £58,000 for traffic management schemes available for the year ahead.
Safer routes to school measures on Langford Lane and Station Road, Burley-in-Wharfedale are also on the agenda.
The meeting will be held in Shipley Town Hall on Thursday, from 6pm. It is open to the public.
