Hungry Council workers will be able to take a bite out of the rich and famous with the launch of a cafe run by people with learning disabilities.

Ollie's cafe, which will serve the 380 Bradford Council employees working at Olicana House in Little Germany, will be dishing out special snacks named after celebrities when it opens its doors tomorrow.

Diners will be able to sink their teeth into sandwich fillings named after the likes of Bradford celebrities such as newsreader Christa Ackroyd, artist David Hockney and 19th century novelist Charlotte Bronte.

The sandwich fillings are designed to represent the personalities of their namesakes. For example, the Christa Ackroyd is packed with salami and chillies - described as a hot, fiery and determined snack.

Weather presenter Paul Hudson's sandwich contains a sunny-side-up egg, while the Gareth Gates is a cheesy treat.

Brunel Housing Day Services set up the Olicana Project in a bid to provide a different learning environment for their service users.

Up to 20 users, with varying learning difficulties, will run the cafe under the direction of a small team.

Organic fruit and vegetables grown in the project's own allotments will be a major part of the special recipes.

Bill Payne, chief executive of Brunel Housing, joined cafe staff to wait on diners for a day.

He said: "Brunel Housing is not just about homes, it is about improving lives of which Brunel Housing Day Services plays a very important role.

"We feel that Ollie's is a prime example of their great work whose core focus is to benefit service users and their families."

Jon Lane, assistant day services manager for Brunel Housing, said: "Ollie's is a commercial venture with two aims.

"First and foremost we want to provide an environment where our service users can learn outside of a day centre setting.

"Secondly, it is to create a cafe that is a welcoming and relaxed sanctuary away from the bustle of the office where council employees can feel comfortable holding meetings, eating lunch or just having a chat.

"Everybody involved in Ollie's has worked really hard, from assembling furniture to painting walls.

"I certainly believe that we've achieved the look we wanted."

A twice-daily trolley service throughout the building will also deliver the famously-titled snacks to workers during the day.
