A distraught mother whose daughter and her unborn baby died in a horrific car smash has criticised a decision to cut the jail term of the man responsible.
Marlene Easton's daughter Tracy was killed in the crash two days before Christmas in 2004.
Tracy, seven months' pregnant at the time, was one of two passengers who died in Glen Smith's car.
Smith, who got behind the wheel after drinking four pints and then crashed into a wall, won the shortened jail term at the Court of Appeal yesterday.
Smith, Tracy's boyfriend, was jailed for six years at Bradford Crown Court in October. But yesterday an appeal judge cut the sentence to five years.
Judges were told Smith was already serving an "emotional life sentence" after admitting causing death by careless driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Miss Easton was furious when she heard of the decision.
The 48-year-old said: "I can't believe it it's disgusting. Burglars and robbers get twice that and he's killed three people. Where is the justice in that?
"He will be out of prison and a free man again soon. I can't have my daughter and granddaughter back. I will never be free.
"It should be a life sentence."
But his legal team successfully argued his sentence was "manifestly excessive" given his guilty plea and remorse.
Judges were told Smith was serving an "emotional life sentence" following the death of his girlfriend and unborn child.
Mr Justice Roderick Evans, sitting with Lord Justice Pill and Mr Justice Underhill, cut the sentence to five years.
The court heard Smith had a number of other convictions relating to motoring offences, and had stolen cars and driven without insurance and a licence in the past.
And in August 1998 he had been convicted for driving with excess alcohol.
On December 23, 2004, Smith, Miss Easton, Miss Dearnley, Stephen Maloney and Diane Hughes were out drinking in Elland. Smith was driving.
At around 11pm he overtook a fire engine in Park Road. As he completed the manoeuvre he lost control of the car and crashed into a three-foot wall which was demolished as a result of the smash.
Miss Easton and Miss Dearnley were killed, while Miss Hughes suffered a head injury and Mr Maloney's left leg was shattered and he needed to be cut from the car.
Smith was breathalysed at a police station and found to be around one and a half times the drink drive limit after drinking four pints of lager earlier in the evening.
An expert later said an under-inflated rear tyre may have partly caused the accident.
