Breast cancer survivors and sufferers are to become catwalk models for the day to raise money for a good cause.

The women will be taking part in the Bosom Friends Fashion Show on Thursday, May 18, to raise cash for the Bradford Cancer Support Centre's Daisy Appeal.

Judith Robinson, 39, who was diagnosed in January 2005, hopes that taking to the stage will show other sufferers there is light at the end of the tunnel.

The mother-of-two, who had a mastectomy immediately after her diagnosis and is still undergoing chemotherapy, said: "This is the first time I have done the fashion show.

"I did go last year and thought that it was fantastic and very inspiring to see the other ladies who have managed to come through the other side and the other ladies who are still going through it like me, and still managing to have a life."

Mrs Robinson, of Clare Road, Wyke, said her husband, Mark, 33, and their children, Jamie, six, and one-year-old Samuel will be cheering her on.

She said: "I was told in the very beginning that the cancer was not curable but containable. I hope that I have a long future and I see my boys grow up.

"It does make your more aware that life can be short and so we live every day as much as we can.

"The support the centre provides is fabulous and the people you meet, whether it has been ten years since their diagnosis or ten days... it is good to be able to talk things through with people who are going through the same thing."

Parmjit Kaur, 34, of Grange Drive, Allerton, was diagnosed with cancer last July.

The former Belle Vue Girls pupil underwent a lumpectomy the following month and has just completed a course of radiotherapy.

She said: "The Cancer Support Centre is excellent. It offers great support to women and their families."

The charity needs to raise £1.1million to provide a new centre for patients and families from across the district.

Plans are under way to move the existing centre, which is based in the Bradford Royal Infirmary, to a row of 18th century cottages, on Smith Lane, known as The Old Farm, and a modern construction, which has yet to be built.

Structural surveys are under way and a planning application has been submitted to Bradford Council.

Tickets for the fashion show, which will be held at the Abundant Life Centre, are £10 and include free entry to the raffle. For further information call (01274) 776688.
