A doctor practising in Bradford was due to appear before the General Medical Council today to face allegations of professional misconduct.

Dr Kameran Kader is accused of placing a number of bags containing confidential information beside a public rubbish bin for disposal, while working as an agency-employed police surgeon.

Dr Kader is accused of wrongly disposing of confidential information, including forms detailing the names and personal details of detained people, according to the GMC. The information also included forms giving details of patient's blood results, serology results and confidential records detailing examinations undertaken in the course of police criminal investigations.

There were also statements taken for the purposes of a criminal investigation, including details relating to victims of sexual offences.

It is alleged that Dr Kader failed to secure the patient/client confidentiality, did not satisfy his personal responsibility to maintain the integrity and security of the notes as required by his employer, and that he breached his responsibility to the police.

It is also alleged that his conduct was not in the best interests of patients, inappropriate, unprofessional and in breach of his terms of employment as a police surgeon.

The hearing was taking place before the GMC's Fitness to Practice Panel in Manchester.

The GMC, which is responsible for the registration of doctors, would not disclose where the alleged incident occurred prior to the hearing which is expected to last two days.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said Dr Kader had never provided police surgeon services for the force.
