Bobby Petta is no longer wanted by City as Colin Todd clears the decks.
The Dutch winger has been told to find a new club for next season even though he still has a year left on his Valley Parade contract.
Petta has played 31 times, scoring four goals, but has rarely lived up to the hype from a CV that included spells with Ipswich, Celtic and Fulham.
Todd said: "I spoke to him about how the season had panned out for him. I was disappointed with his overall play at the club and I've told him it's best that I make a decision now.
"He will look for another club and hopefully he'll get that before we come back for pre-season."
Back-up goalkeeper Russell Howarth has also been advised he can leave if he finds somewhere else in the summer.
Youngsters John Swift, Craig Bentham, Tom Penford and Michael Symes have all been retained. City have also made an offer to Lewis Emanuel.
Todd wanted to keep Darren Holloway but was unable to match the terms of his current contract. Tom Kearney has been released along with Owen Morrison, Steve Claridge, Lee Crooks and Andy Cooke. Youngsters Jake Wright and Sam Denton have also gone.
Danny Forrest will not be told if he has a City future until Halifax, where he has been on loan all season, have finished in the Conference play-offs.
Todd said: "Unfortunately there was disappointment for a lot of players but that's part and parcel of the job of management. I think most of them knew what the outcome would be."
Right back Swift believes City are right to put their trust in the youngsters who are coming through.
Swift, who played in four of the last five games, said: "They are realising that the young players of Bradford City are the future.
"I would think the younger ones are getting paid less money than the older ones and the club may, in the future, get some cash back for some of the youngsters.
"I think we've proved this year that we can be relied upon and we are good quality.
"Hopefully youth is the way forward for Bradford City.
"These have been nervy times for a lot of people but obviously the gaffer has put his trust in me and hopefully next year will be an even more prosperous one."
