A group of parents have set an example for children at school meal times.

Once a week, six parents have joined their reception children for lunch at Ley Top Primary School, Allerton, as part of the Talking Tables project.

Parents encouraged pupils to take turns in conversations, and to listen and share ideas with both their peers and adults.

The parents and children also practised setting tables, with the youngsters also learning how to carry their plates with food on and how to hold a knife and fork.

The school hopes the scheme will encourage families to eat together after research found children that ate with their family rather than while watching TV were healthier, did better at school and were less likely to develop eating disorders.
