Two teenagers were locked up today after a Bradford student was burgled and attacked.

Shafraz Ali Khan, 19, of Farnham Road, Great Horton, Bradford, was sent to a young-offender institution for 16 months for the break-in.

He and a 15-year-old boy admitted burgling the 19-year-old student's home in St Margaret's Place, Great Horton, in January last year.

The youth also pleaded guilty to causing him actual bodily harm.

He was sentenced to an 18-month detention and training order.

Bradford Crown Court heard that the student disturbed a gang of burglars.

He chased after them and grabbed the 15-year-old. The youth bit him several times on the hand and brandished a stick at him.

He broke free and the group ran off down Horton Grange Road.

The lock had been forced at the student's home and the door kicked in. Khan's footprint was found outside and DNA from the bite matched the youth.

The court heard that Khan kicked open the door but did not go in.

The 15-year-old had been excluded from three schools and could not read or write.
