A graduate from Ilkley who created a student guide has been named as one of the most enterprising young Brits of the year.
Will Anderson, 23, has reached the finals of a national competition after setting up his own business in his second year at university. He was due to pitch his ideas to members of the Institute of Directors this week and is hoping to collect as many votes as possible before the winners are announced on April 6.
The broadcast journalism graduate decided to target businesses for student advertising while at Nottingham Trent University. Signing up 30 companies, from restaurants to designer fashion stores, he produced TV adverts and ‘Fresh Guides’ for first-year students arriving on campus.
Will said: “The aim was to make money but the result was something more rewarding – it actually acted as a valuable resource for new students while providing effective advertising for local businesses. Each year we sign up new clients.
The Enterprising Young Brits competition is open to under 30s and is run by Enterprise UK in partnership with the Institute of Directors and the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills. Supporters can vote for the finalists by visiting enterpriseuk.org.
