A former Gulf War veteran and former member of the SAS assaulted a detention officer at Keighley police station, after being arrested for making nuisance telephone calls, magistrates in Bingley heard.
At the time, Phillip Giles, of Bromley Road, Bingley had been suffering from depression and other mental health problems following the deaths of his mother, grandfather and the suicide of his cousin. The 38-year-old who admitted assault on July 11 in Airedale House, Royd Ings Road, Keighley, was conditionally discharged for 12 months.
Magistrates also ordered that an existing community order, imposed on November 4 for another separate offence, should continue and Giles was ordered to pay £60 compensation and £40 costs.
