A Bradford restaurant group is organising a 40-mile charity walk over four days to raise £20,000 for heart equipment.

The Aagrah Group of Restaurants is inviting businesses and residents to join in and help raise the money which will fund equipment for the cardiology department at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

The walk starts on Friday, May 21, from Bradford City Hall and finishes back in Bradford on Monday, May 24, after taking in Ilkley, Skipton and Keighley.

The walk is the idea of Mohammed Aslam, managing director of the Aagrah Group of Restaurants, who will lead the participants.

He will be joined by Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust consultant cardiologist Dr Steven Lindsay.

It is hoped the event will raise the £20,000 needed to buy a cardiology image review work station for Bradford Royal Infirmary, which will assist Dr Lindsay and his colleagues in their life-saving work.

Mr Aslam said: “I enjoy walking. I wanted to inspire people and to raise awareness of the charity by getting involved in an outdoor activity where everyone can join in.”

Participants can choose to walk on individual days or complete the full 40-mile walk.

Day one will start at 9.30am on Friday, May 21, and see walkers cover 11.7 miles from Centenary Square in Bradford to Ilkley.

Day two will see the walkers leave Ilkley to walk the 9.3 miles to Skipton. Day three is an 11.1-mile walk from Skipton to Keighley and the final day will cover 7.2 miles from Keighley back to Bradford.

Mr Aslam said his company welcomed support from the community, whether through sponsorship or simply helping to cheer the walkers along. The business hopes the walk will become an annual event and build on its record of raising money for charity.

Since it was set up more than 30 years ago the company has raised more than £1 million for numerous charities in the UK and abroad.
