A spate of satellite navigation and mobile phone thefts from cars in Bradford city centre have prompted extra ‘undercover’ police patrols.
Drivers are being warned not to leave valuables and expensive kit on view when parking up.
But in the meantime more patrols will be mounted.
Inspector Kevin Pickles, of Bradford South division, said: “Even if you’re only leaving your car parked for a couple of minutes, take your valuables with you.
“If you’re using a portable sat nav system then remove the holder and wipe the sucker mark off the windscreen.
“It only takes a minute but it will make a difference if thieves are looking to target cars in the area.
“The homes of known criminals linked to vehicle thefts and others suspected of being involved, are being visited by police officers.”
“Anyone with any information as to whom maybe responsible for this sort of crime are urged to contact Bradford South Police on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
To help prevent yourself from becoming a victim of car crime, you should lock your car when you leave it and don’t leave any property on show.
If your car is fitted with an alarm, make sure it is set when leaving your vehicle. Meanwhile, police are also continuing to use ‘capture cars’.
The latest person was caught by one of these specially-designed vehicles a week ago.
