School pupils are being invited to showcase their artwork and poetry on hoardings surrounding the City Park which is currently being built in Bradford.

Bradford Council and Education Bradford are asking all schools to get involved and submit artwork such as drawings, photographs or sculpture, as well as prose and poetry. The work must be themed around the City Park and regeneration for the Imagine a City project and could be seen by thousands of people a day.

The chosen works will be displayed on billboards and include the name of the artist. More information can be found on the education pages at bradford.gov.uk/citypark.

The Council has also launched a series of educational presentations and ideas for schools to use to learn about the £24.4 million City Park as part of the curriculum.

The web-based materials are available to download from the website and contain information on building and designing the park.

Introductory documents are also available which explain the regeneration journey from masterplan to a regenerated city, case studies, example lesson plans and lists of curriculum links.

Sue Mansfield, head teacher of Titus Salt School, Baildon, said: “We have been working closely with Bradford Council this year and our students have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the City Park.

“We hosted the city centre masterplan model in our library and our students have shown a lot of interest in the future of their city.”

The City Park Ambassadors project, which was launched in November, is working with 30 students from Titus Salt School and Challenge College through the Schools Linking Network and City of Film. The students are learning about the regeneration and the history of the city, as well as filming and interview techniques.

Councillor Adrian Naylor, the Council’s executive member for regeneration and economy, said: “Engaging with the city’s future residents is paramount to the future success of the city.”
