A support group set up to tackle an ‘invisible illness’ is celebrating its first year.
Around 30 members ranging from their 20s to 80s suffering from fibromyalgia in Craven meet up to ‘have a laugh’ on the second Tuesday of every month at the Quaker Meeting House in Skipton from 1pm.
Support Group founder Barbara Tees, from Silsden, said: “We get together and have fun. We talk about the condition and our own experiences but the fact that we can say ‘I have had a lot of pain today’ but then move on to talking about something else is good because you don’t have to explain yourself more.”
The group has spent the last year hiring speakers, getting reports on new treatments and fundraising. Miss Tees said: “Now we want to see if we can reach other sufferers who are not yet aware of our existence.”
The most common symptoms of Fibromyalgia are pain and fatigue in muscles and tendons.
