One of the TV highlights of last year was psychological illusionist Derren Brown (pictured) getting people to ‘stick’ to their sofas while watching his Channel 4 show, Mind Control.

His previous mind-boggling achievements include predicting the winning National Lottery numbers, performing Russian Roulette on live television, sharing his foolproof method for winning on the horses, and creating a video game featuring real people in a catatonic trance.

Regarded as the UK’s greatest illusionist, he’s bringing his Enigma tour to Bradford next week. Billed as “a once-in-a-lifetime theatrical experience”, it’s set to bewitch and baffle audiences.

“Like previous shows, I will absolutely push myself to the limit,” says Derren. “The audience will be taken for a theatrical roller-coaster ride. I hope it’s an experience they will never forget.”

He prefers performing on stage to working on TV. “When touring, I get to travel around with my best friends, do a show I love which I’m confident people will enjoy, and have all the adrenaline that comes with performing,” he says.

“With TV, there are constant enforced changes, restraints, and frustrations that sap much of the joy out of it. With the tour, once it’s rehearsed I only have to go out and have the pleasure of doing the show, changing it as I like at my own pace.”

Derren Brown: Enigma is at St George’s Hall on April 3 and 4. For tickets, ring (01274) 432000.
