Do you ever watch a TV drama or a play at the theatre and think, “I could write that?”
Now’s your chance to try. Following successful workshops in Otley, writer/actor/director Irene Lofthouse is running introductory workshops at South Square Centre in Thornton and Silsden’s Projeto Gallery next month.
“There are many people who have scraps of ideas, but aren’t sure how to develop them,” says Irene. “My aim is to cover the basics of how to produce a short performance script and explore participants’ interests.”
Creative workshops at South Square Centre will involve devising a story and exploring script development, leading to a short text for a script-in-hand performance. At Projeto Gallery, a ‘taster’ day will involve Irene using new writing and classic texts to explore different genres.
Irene has a busy year ahead; she’s performing a new monologue at Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August, then in October she will premiere her stage adaptation of a JB Priestley short story at Bradford Cathedral. She is also working on two new plays.
