A talented university student dangerously overtook a line of vehicles before hitting a car and sending it spinning through 180 degrees, a Court heard today.

Yuri Senyk, 21, drove on the wrong side of the road, swerving from side-to-side, at about 45mph in a 30mph limit.

Prosecutor John Bull told Bradford Crown Court other cars had to swerve to avoid Senyk’s Fiesta during the incident in Leylands Road, Heaton, Bradford, at 4.30pm on Wednesday, May 20, last year.

Mr Bull said Senyk’s car appeared to hit a speed bump, left the ground, went out of control and collided with a car waiting to turn right, spinning it round and leaving the driver with minor whiplash injuries.

Senyk then collided with a parked car before coming to a halt. He remained at the scene and was spoken to by police.

His barrister, David Birrell, said it was a one-off momentary lapse of judgement by the photography student.

Senyk, of Rylands Grove, Heaton, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving.

Judge Peter Benson said it was a bad piece of dangerous driving but he added: “I am prepared to treat it as a piece of youthful stupidity.”

He sentenced Senyk to a community order, with 120 hours’ unpaid work, disqualified him from driving for 18 months, ordered him to take an extended driving test and to pay £150 towards prosecution costs.
