This giant cake made by chefs at the National Media Museum is to be served up as part of Bradford’s City of Film celebrations.

The massive orange sponge was to be displayed at today’s civic reception at City Hall before being moved to the museum in time for events this even-ing. The cake, made up of eight edible letters spell-ing ‘Brad-ford’, was the brainchild of Anthony Hegney, general manager for Digby Trout Restaurants, which runs the museum’s cafe.

The B-shaped part of the cake will be served at the civic reception and the rest given to charities and groups including Victim Support, Overgate Hospice, Foundation, Bradford Cancer Support and the maternity unit at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

St Paul’s Church, Buttershaw, is to receive the D-shaped part of the cake for the opening of its new community rooms and toilets.

Mr Heg-ney said: “It’s great to be able to support charities in the area through a project like this that will leave its mark on the world’s first City of Film.”

The A and R pieces of the cake, which will serve 100 each, are still available.
