Murder squad detectives were last night quizzing a 22-year-old man over the death of a teenager who was stabbed in Bradford.

The man has been arrested on suspicion of murder following the incident in Gladstone Street, Bradford Moor, in the early hours of Tuesday.

Yesterday, the Telegraph & Argus exclusively revealed that the victim was 19-year-old Mohammed Rayaib, who lived with his parents in Gladstone Street.

West Yorkshire Police have now officially named him following a formal identification.

A police spokesman said: “We can now confirm that the 19-year-old man who died in Gladstone Street was Mohammed Rayaib. The cause of his death was a stab wound.”

A group of males are believed to have arrived at the scene in a vehicle.

A near neighbour described how he heard a “blood-curdling” scream and went outside to see Mr Rayaib collapse in the street.

Friends and family tried to help Mr Rayaib before the ambulance arrived. He was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary where he was pronounced dead.

Police started a murder investigation and spent Tuesday at the scene carrying out forensic investigations.

Yesterday, they continued door-to-door inquiries in the area and neighbourhood policing officers spoke to residents to offer reassurance.

As news of Mr Rayaib’s death spread across Bradford Moor, community leaders urged residents to do everything possible to help police solve the case. Mr Rayaib was described by friends as a “great lad” who was polite and respected his elders.

Shopkeepers in the area told how he would chat with them about a range of topics, including cricket, when he came in to buy cigarettes, food and sweets.

His distraught family said they would never recover from losing him in such a tragic way.

A special prayer service has been held at the Madni Jamia Mosque, in nearby Thornbury Road.
