So you’ve got a killer idea. You’re girlfriend will be the leading lady. Your dad will make the set. Even your mum said she’ll be in your movie. How are you going to finance it?

Funding opportunities generally come from organisations such as regional screen agencies or national film organisations, but can also come from private individuals or commercial companies.

* Made in Bradford local bursaries Bradford City of Film has an annual grants scheme of £1,000 to local film-makers making short films in Bradford. These grants are offered once a year through Fabric, and the finished films will be screened as part of Bradford City of Film events and at the Bradford International Film Festival. The next round of funding applications will be announced later this year at bradford-city-of-film.com.

* Screen Yorkshire Bradford falls under the remit of Screen Yorkshire, the regional screen agency for Yorkshire and Humberside, which receives money from the UK Film Council to provide funding for films being made in the region. Check out screenyorkshire.co.uk.

* UK Film Council The UK Film Council is the national body for film and runs many different funding schemes for both new and established film-makers in the UK. Try ukfilmcouncil.org.uk.

* First Light Films First Light is funded through the UK Film Council and directly from the Department for Children, Schools and Families. First Light administers over £5m each year and operates a number of youth funding schemes at firstlightonline.co.uk.

* Mediabox Mediabox is a Department for Children, Schools and Families fund to help young people have a positive voice in the media.
