The family of a nine-year-old Bradford boy who was stabbed to death used the day of his funeral today to pay their own tributes to him.

Jack Taylor died of wounds he suffered at his sister’s home in Rookes Avenue, Wibsey, last month.

His brother Daniel Taylor, 20, has been charged with his murder and an additional charge of wounding his 18-year-old sister Rachel with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

In a statement, his family said: “Jack was a lovely lad who was full of joy.

“He’d been our lives for the past nine years and ten months and in that time he brought us loads of happiness.

“Jack loved his family and his family loved him.”

The statement also described how Jack had looked up to his brother Daniel.

His family said: “They were identical as kids – so alike – both of them were bright and quick.

“Jack learned a lot from his brother and he loved him and his brother loved Jack.

“We’re just striving for Daniel to get well now. He’s a poorly boy and we just hope that one day he’ll be all right.”

The family also state how Jack’s 18-month-old niece Lola had been a great comfort to them since his death.

“She’s kept us occupied and made us smile,” they said. “Jack wouldn’t want anyone to be upset – he didn’t like it if people were sad.”

The family described Jack as a popular boy who was the joker of the class and “got on with everyone”.

He was a keen footballer, who enjoyed playing the sport and supporting his team, Liverpool FC.

The statement finishes: “Jack was a kind, caring and funny little lad.

“He lightened everybody’s hearts.

“We all miss him so much – he’s left a large gap in our family but he will be forever in our hearts and we have many lovely memories of him.”

Jack’s funeral was taking place at 11.30am today at St Paul’s Church, Buttershaw, Bradford, followed by cremation at Scholemoor crematorium.

Daniel Taylor is due to next appear at Bradford Crown Court on June 11.
