Older people will be airing their views this week about what they want from services that affect them.

The event has been organised by Bradford Council’s Older People’s Partnership and will enable the older generation to talk about the kind of support they would like to receive.

Building A Bradford District For All Ages – The Voices Of Older People takes place from 9am to 1pm, on Thursday at the Ramada Jarvis Hotel, Bingley.

It will include workshops where discussion will focus on six issues identified by older people in 2007 as priorities. There are: - Health and well-being - Housing and homes - Neighbourhoods - Involvement in community life - Financial security, employment and learning opportunities - Transport.

The workshops will look at how these issues have been addressed over the last three years and how they can be built into future plans.

At a second workshop people can talk to representatives from the Council and other agencies about what they can do to improve the services to better meet their needs.

Councillor Dale Smith, the Council’s executive member for adult and community services, said: “It is vital that people are at the centre of any planning of future services. This event gives older people a platform to air their views on the issues affecting them and the Council and other organisations the opportunity to listen and learn.”

Speakers at the event will include Jean Walker, chairman of Bradford and District Older People’s Alliance and Isobel Mills, deputy regional director, Parliament and Communities Government Office for Yorkshire and Humber. There will also be music from the Anand Milan Older People’s Centre.
