Young performers at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, in Bradford, have triumphed in a pilot dance scheme.
The pupils, aged between seven and 11, beat four other primary schools in the Junior Dance Challenge at Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College.
The competition, to be open to more schools next year, was a junior version of the Rock Challenge, an international performing arts contest aimed at secondary and college pupils.
Twenty-nine children performed in the five-minute routine, which included ballet, break dance, street dance and cheerleading. Others helped with costume design and make-up.
Jeanette Oljanuk, a learning mentor at the school, said: “The competition was about making children realise they can have a lot of fun performing. They were so proud to be the first-ever winners of the competition.”
