Last week brought what seemed like the first real sunshine in a long time, and a proper thaw in seasonal temperatures. A seasonal change like that often brings with it a change in mood and attitude, and Bradford has more reasons than most to kick on from that.

Next week sees the launch of City of Film – we are the world’s first city with the UNESCO designation.

It’s a great privilege to be described as the ‘world’s first’ and one that can help change perceptions of Bradford.

The Forum received a presentation from City of Film director Peg Alexander, and if her enthusiasm can be passed on to a sizeable fraction of Bradfordians, then the game is on.

She cannot do the job alone, though, and so I urge businesses and others to get behind City of Film and make things happen.

One of Bradford’s business leaders and my fellow columnist Sandy Needham is urging her members to carry out activities and promotions to support City of Film. That’s what this needs.

City of Film can deliver more trade to local businesses, bring in more tourists and, excuse the pun, put Bradford back on the big screen.

There is a help guide for businesses on how to get involved on both the Forum and Chamber websites.

Take a look, and if you can’t prepare something for the launch next week, don’t worry. This ‘award’ is permanent and ongoing, so new ideas and events will be needed all the time. Ask not what City of Film can do for you – ask what you can do for City of Film.
