Four of the district’s buildings could be in the running for one of region’s property ‘Oscars’ given to impressive buildings in Yorkshire.

Manningham Library, All Saints Primary School and The Ridge Medical Practice in Bradford, as well as Shelf Library, are among 45 shortlisted for the 2010 RICS Pro Yorkshire Awards.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors received 77 entries, and have whittled them down over eight categories.

These are conservation, commercial, community benefit, design and innovation, regeneration, residential, sustainability, and tourism and leisure.

There is also a Project of the Year which is given to the entry judged to have scored the highest across all categories.

Both Manningham Library and The Ridge Medical Practice at Great Horton are shortlisted in the community benefit category. All Saints Primary at Little Horton is in the design and innovation section. And Shelf Library is considered in the sustainability category.

Manningham Library reopen-ed last summer after a £1.5 million makeover by Big Lottery funding. It was refurbished and extended to create a more family-friendly space. It now has space for art exhibitions and events along with a community garden and a meeting room.

The new Ridge Medical Practice medical centre opened in October to offer expanded services for patients. The £9 million project created Bradford’s biggest GP surgery serving a population of more than 20,000.

All Saints Primary was rebuilt on a nearby site and relocated in March last year. The school’s features include curved walls and classrooms, a rooftop garden area and a two-storey central atrium.

In Shelf, an environmentally-friendly extension was added to the village hall before the library was relocated there in May last year. The extension was built using traditional techniques and eco-friendly materials, including walls made from straw bales and a living sedum roof covering.

Colin Harrop, chairman of the RICS Yorkshire and Humberside judging panel, said: “The RICS Pro Yorkshire Awards present an ideal opportunity for the sectors that have been hit hard by the recession to showcase the great work that is underway in the region, despite the poor market conditions.”

The winners will be announced on Friday, May 14.
