A Polish man who was on the run for months after admitting his part in a vicious and unprovoked assault in Bradford has been arrested in his homeland.

Remigiusz Klata, 26, fled the UK before being sentenced in relation to a knife attack on fellow countryman Artur Wojtowicz.

The victim suffered multiple injuries, including stab wounds to his shoulder and hand and stamping injuries that left a shoe imprint on his back, when he was attacked by three men.

He was also struck with a bottle during a two-hour orgy of violence at Mr Wojtowicz’s home in Newforth Grove, Bankfoot, Bradford, in February, 2007.

Rafal Kamil Krajewski, 31, of Manningham Lane, Mann-ingham, was said to have wielded the bottle. He was jailed for nine years last August after he was tried in his absence when he jumped bail and went back to Poland. He later handed himself in.

Grzegorz Holubowicz, 29, of Parsonage Road, Tyersal, was given a seven-year prison sentence.

The attackers pretended they had gone to Mr Wojtowicz’s home for a friendly drink.

A European arrest warrant was issued last year when Klata, of Seaton Street, Barkerend, fled before sentencing for wounding with intent.

Recorder Jonathan Sandi-ford, jailing Krajewski last November, made a fresh plea to find Klata, who was believed to be still in Poland.

But he said he would not sentence the fugitive because he would not start serving it until he was found.

Klata, who does not speak English, appeared before Judge Jonathan Rose at Bradford Crown Court last Friday following the execution of the arrest warrant. He is thought to have been arrested in Poland around two months ago and brought back to Britain in the last few days.

Judge Rose adjourned the case so an interpreter could be made available for the sentencing hearing, before Recorder Sandiford on a date to be fixed. He remanded Klata in custody.
