Young poets, chocaholics and designers have all been doing their bit to celebrate Fairtrade Fortnight.
Creative Year 10 students at Prince Henry’s Grammar School produced lip balms, made from Fairtrade ingredients, and sold them (with proceeds going to the Haiti earthquake appeal) as part of the school’s support for the campaign.
Pupils across the key stages at Prince Henry’s have also helped to create a poetry anthology about Fairtrade, which will be published in the school.
Year 4 pupils at St Joseph’s Primary School, meanwhile, got to sample some Fairtrade chocolate as part of a presentation by staff from the town’s Sainsbury’s store.
St Joseph’s pupils were treated to an informative talk about the concept of Fairtrade and how small changes in shopping habits can make a big difference.
Fairtrade bananas and chocolate bars were then handed out for the children to try, and St Joseph’s plans to follow up the talk by visiting the Otley store to see how many Fairtrade products the pupils can identify.
