Members of Keighley Playhouse are going back to school for their next production.

Albert Make Us Laugh, by Jimmie Chinn, is described as a touching, moving play about the growing pains of Albert Nuttall and his school chums.

Some might say 11-year-old Albert is not quite the full shilling, but he is a gifted poet and a visionary who inspires unexpected depths of emotion in other people, notably his classmate Primrose who has acting aspirations, and lost, lonely schoolteacher, Miss Partington.

Director Geoff Whitley said: “What Albert seems to lack in co-ordination, he makes up for in his off-kilter sharpness. This is a funny, touching, uplifting story, acted by adults. It’s engaging and theatrically innovative. It may well remind you of your own schooldays.”

Writer Jimmie Chinn based the play on his own experiences of growing up in the North. He was a schoolteacher before becoming a full-time writer.

Albert Make Us Laugh runs at Keighley Playhouse from March 15 to 20. For tickets, ring 08451 267859.
