If you’ve never seen Riverdance, then this could be your last chance. After a sell-out success in 2009, the legendary Riverdance continues its Farewell Tour across the UK. It broke all box office records during its premier run at the Point Theatre, Dublin in 1995 and has now been seen by more than 21 million people worldwide across four continents. This innovative and exciting fusion of Irish and International dance is on at the Alhambra from Monday to Saturday.

The Delius Centre starts special acting classes for the over-60s next Tuesday, so if you have always wanted to tread the boards, then this is your opportunity. The classes offer the elderly the chance to learn a whole range of performance skills – including voice, movement and song. Led by drama tutor Audrey Coldron, Playmakers runs from 1pm to 3pm at the Delius Centre, opposite Bradford College. After its triumph in the West End, Calendar Girls is coming to The Grand Theatre, Leeds, for one week, starting on Monday. Starring Lynda Bellingham, Jan Harvey and Letitia Dean, it’s quirky, poignant and hilarious, and it will make you laugh and cry at the same time.

Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway holds an open day next Saturday for potential volunteers to take a look behind the scenes at what goes on in order to operate the railway. There will be a steam train journey to Embsay station, where there will be opportunities to experience the work of all the varied departments of a heritage railway. Just right, if you’ve always wanted to be a train guard, ticket clerk or even an engine driver.

Skipton Castle is always worth a visit, and if you head for the charming Dales town tomorrow, you can visit the castle for free. All you have to do is buy a copy of the Craven Herald in which you’ll find a voucher admitting up to two adults and three children in to the castle – saving nearly £20. The castle, which is open from noon to 6pm, was founded in 1090 by Robert de Romille, and is described as being is one of the most complete and well-preserved medieval castles in England.
