Three health drop-in centres in Bradford are the first in the region to receive national accreditation for being young-people friendly.

The TIC TAC service at Tong High School, Eccleshill young people’s health drop-in, and Ridge Medical Practice young people’s drop-in in Great Horton have been awarded ‘You’re Welcome’ status for achieving high standards.

‘You’re Welcome’ is a set of standards to make sure that health services for 11 to 19-year-olds are friendly to young people.

It aims to improve the acceptability, accessibility and quality of services for young people.

Services that are awarded the ‘You’re Welcome’ plaque and certificate have to meet high standards.

Young people are encouraged to give feedback to services.

They are also consulted about a service’s accessibility, environment, staff skills, values and attitudes, and encouraged to suggest how the service can be improved.

All the services achieving ‘You’re Welcome’ status provide confidential information and support on a range of health issues for young people like smoking, alcohol and drugs, bullying, mental health and emotional well-being, sexual health and healthy eating.

The services provide young people with information to help them make safe, informed choices including developing the confidence and skills to resist unwanted peer pressure and delay making rushed decisions.

Jeanette Crabbe, of the sexual health team at Bradford and Airedale Community Health Services, said: “This is fantastic news for the services and the young people who use them.

“This award shows we are listening to young people, giving them the support, advice and information they want and making services even more welcoming and relevant to them.”
