A councillor has objected to a bid by the owner of a Shipley pizza and burger bar to extend its opening hours, claiming excessive noise will disturb people living nearby.
Mohsin Ali has applied to the Keighley and Shipley Licensing Panel for a new premises licence to allow Kash in Leeds Road, Windhill, to open until 1.30am on Friday and Saturday, and until midnight from Sunday to Thursday.
Councillor John Watmough (Lib Dem, Windhill and Wrose) has sent a letter to the licensing panel, objecting to the application.
In the letter, Coun Watmough claims it would lead to excessive noise and disturbance as customers would congregate outside the premises later in the evening.
He says there is no car park by the premises, meaning customers would park on side streets, disrupting residents in the early hours of the morning. Coun Watmough said: “It’s in a very built up area and residents have complained to me – if it opens until 1.30am then it will disturb their sleep.
“I’m representing the residents really. They are complaining about the litter and the noise element of it.
“It’s mostly elderly people around there as well, who obviously don’t want it. That’s my main reason, the residents are saying they don’t want the litter and they don’t want the noise.”
A report to the panel states the premises was previously licensed until 1am on Fridays and Saturdays and midnight, Sundays to Thursdays.
According to the report, subsequent licensees did not apply to transfer the licence and it was eventually surrendered in September, 2008.
Members of the panel have been advised to consider the report and, after hearing interested parties, determine the application at its meeting in City Hall, Bradford, on Friday.
Kash now operates between 5pm and 11pm throughout the week, in accordance with its existing licence.
A spokesman for the takeaway said he did not wish to comment until the licensing committee meeting.
