Pensioners living at a sheltered housing complex in Bradford are to be told the outcome of a review into the future of the development next week.

Residents at Anchor Trust’s Abbey Court scheme in Manningham, which is home to more than 70 people, discovered the centre was under review in October when a former resident was prevented from renting a vacant flat.

They fear the complex may be sold or closed so renovation work can be carried out.

Andrew Reston, Anchor’s head of service delivery, is to visit Abbey Court on Tuesday to inform occupants of the review’s outcome.

Grant Downs, 60, who moved to the development last year, said he was angry residents had not been kept informed of the review’s progress.

He said: “We had a meeting in November with a manager who promised to keep us in the loop but this hasn’t happened.

“We can’t even book a day out on a coach trip next month because we don’t know what will be happening. It has been months that they have left us in limbo. There are people that are distraught and upset to the point of needing medical attention.

“A large number of people are in absolute turmoil worrying about what they are going to do because they might not have a place to live next month.

“We had a Valentine’s Day party and the conversation instead of being about how great it was, was about what’s going to happen to us.”

Mr Reston said: “We met with tenants in November to let them know the scheme was under review and that we would inform them of developments by the end of April.

“I will be meeting with tenants on Tuesday, March 2 to let them know the outcome of the review.”
