by Emma Clayton Leisure & Lifestyle Editor Two finalists of the BBC1 show So You Think You Can Dance are coming to Bradford as part of a new dance season.
Tommy Franzen and Lizzie Gough are in street dance sensation Blaze, a high-energy theatrical show of non-stop dance with a nightclub vibe.
The show is just one of a range of world-class dance companies coming to the Alhambra for Bradford Theatres’ fourth dance season running from March to November. Productions will be accompanied by dance workshops and post-show discussions.
Adam Renton, general manager of Bradford Theatres, said: “We welcome back regular visitors Northern Ballet Theatre and Matthew Bourne, both with very different interpretations of Swan Lake, as well as Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater which brings an exciting programme to the city.”
Starting the new season is Matthew Bourne’s Swan Lake, a multi award-winning re-interpretation of the classic ballet coming to the Alhambra in March. A hit around the world, the iconic production replaces the traditional female corps de ballet with an all-male ensemble, blending dance and humour with extravagant designs.
The Dance Consortium brings Rio de Janeiro company Companhia de Danca Deborah Colker, combining inventive visual effects with physical precision.
Northern Ballet Theatre presents a haunting, romantic adaptation of Swan Lake capturing the elegance of a long hot summer in early 20th Century New England, and one of the world’s most popular dance companies, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, returns with new routines and classics, including the soul-stirring signature piece, Revelations.
Direct from a sell-out West End run comes Havana Rakatan, a dazzling spectacular from Cuba fusing jazz, mambo, bolero, son, cha-cha-cha, rumba and salsa. And Break dance extravaganza Breakin’ Convention is back for a one-night performance.
