Jealous Arfan Ali attacked a man he thought was having an affair with his former girlfriend, Bradford Crown Court heard today.

The woman had gone to the flat of Akhbar Malik, in Mornington Villas, Manningham, Bradford, to do some cleaning work, but Ali turned up and accused them of sleeping together, said prosecutor Geraldine Kelly.

There was an altercation between the woman and the defendant and Mr Malik tried to assist, but was punched and kicked, suffering a fractured forearm and cuts to his temple, eye and hand. He was treated at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

Ali, who was convicted of riot in 2002 when he was 13, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm.

His barrister, Michael Collins, said it was not a pre-meditated assault.

Ali had not intended to cause the broken arm, which was the result of an unfortunate land- ing during the course of a struggle.

Ali, 21, of Aireville Toad, Frizinghall, was sentenced to an Intensive Alternative to Custody order, involving a Community Order with supervision for 12 months, 60 hours of unpaid work and an order to attend the YMCA for a specified activity three times a week for 16 weeks.
