Ambitious plans to take control of Skipton Town Hall have been revealed by the town council.
The council, which is in talks with Craven District Council, plans to retain it as a community facility.
If everything goes to plan, the hall will also continue to be a home for the Craven Museum and Art Gallery.
Town councillor Eric Jaquin said discussions were at an early stage, but confirmed it was the intention of the town council to take control of the building.
“In 1974, the building was transferred from Skipton Urban District Council to Craven District Council, at no cost to the new authority,” he said.
“The town council – the successor to the urban district council – aspires to take over and manage the building.”
In December the district council said it was considering options for the future running of both Skipton and Settle Town Halls.
Councillors were told both buildings needed major expenditure to bring them up to modern standards.
